Health & Safety Policy

SICON Ltd (incorporating Blakely Construction), as a designated PCBU is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for its workers, contractors, visitors, and all persons on our premises or our controlled sites as a place of work. We will also ensure that all participants on a worksite follow their Health and Safety duties and responsibilities. We expect a shared commitment and a collaborative approach to health and safety management with our employees playing a vital and responsible role in health and safety.

Our Health & Safety commitment and how this policy will be actioned is embedded into our strategy and underpinned by our Four Pillars which describe our 4 key steps to achieving this:

  • Process: - we will design and work to a process to ensure consistent outputs
  • Proof: - evidence is generated as part of each process to validate the expected outputs
  • Progress: - systematic process review to ensure fitness for purpose and continuous improvement
  • Pride: - experienced by us all as we actively engage with the strategy

Our senior management is committed to developing a visible safety leadership programme that includes involvement in safety observations and staff meetings.

Therefore, we will:

  • Establish Health, Safety & Wellbeing objectives that seek to prevent accidents and long and short term ill health effects and to provide a platform to provide a positive safety culture to improve worker wellbeing. Objectives must be consistent with this policy, be documented, monitored, communicated, and regularly updated.
  • Consult with workers, representatives, and unions (if applicable) to encourage participation in establishing, implementing, and reviewing measurable objectives in Health and Safety by promoting a system of continuous improvement in Health and Safety aimed at the elimination of work-related injury and illness. We will also consult, co-operate and coordinate with other PCBU’s who may be working on the same site.
  • Encourage the accurate and timely reporting and recording of all near-misses, accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions so that investigations will ensure all contributing factors are identified and, where appropriate, plans are formulated to take corrective actions.
  • Ensure that all workers are aware of existing and possible new risks in their work area and are adequately trained to enable them to perform their duties safely through the elimination or minimisation of these risks.
  • Promote the early reporting of any pain or discomfort so that participation in the rehabilitation of any employee will ensure an early and safe return to work
  • Not allow any person on any of our controlled sites or premises that is impaired by either drugs or alcohol to remain at work.
  • Ensure that all our employees know and understand their responsibilities for the health and safety of themselves and those employees working with or around them.
  • Promote a system of continuous improvement in health and safety practices.
  • Appoint a senior manager for the responsibility of Health & Safety resourcing, support, and initiatives in the workplace.
  • Comply with our obligations under the relevant Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and any relevant Codes of Practices; Guides; Guidelines and Standards.

All our employees are expected to play a vital and responsible role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace through:

  • Observing all safe work procedures, rules, and instructions.
  • The early reporting of any pain or discomfort.
  • Taking an active role in the company's treatment and rehabilitation plan, to ensure an 'early and safe return to work'.
  • Ensuring that all accidents, incidents and unsafe conditions that may cause illness or injury are reported to the appropriate person.
  • Ensuring that they arrive at work with all supplied Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and it is worn and used in all circumstances.
  • Actively partake in Health & Safety consultation and initiatives

Environmental Policy

SICON Ltd (incorporating Blakely Construction) has identified environmental management as a priority and as a key determinant to sustainable development.

Business operations have the potential to negatively impact the environment through pollution of the natural environment, emission of greenhouse gases, production of waste and use of scarce resources such as energy and water. How we demonstrate our environmental commitment and how this this policy will be actioned is imbedded into our strategy and underpinned by our Four Pillars which describe our 4 key steps to achieving this:

  • Process: - we will design and work to a process to ensure consistent outputs
  • Proof: - evidence is generated as part of each process to validate the expected outputs
  • Progress: - systematic process review to ensure fitness for purpose and continuous improvement
  • Pride: - experienced by us all as we actively engage with the strategy

SICON will, in its commitment to sustainable environmental management:

  1. Establish environmental objectives that seek to reduce the impact of company operations on the environment. Objectives will be set to minimise pollution; reduce emissions of greenhouse gases; reduce solid waste; and improve the efficient use of resources particularly energy and water. Objectives must be consistent with this policy, be documented, monitored, communicated and regularly updated.
  2. Prepare environmental plans to addresss one or more environmental issue, where management consider specific plans are necessary to achieve environmental objectives.
  3. Integrate its environmental policies, procedures and plans fully into all business activities to a standard consistent with ISO14001:2016,
  4. Comply with all environmental legislation, standards and contract requirements that are applicable to the company’s operation,
  5. Complete environmental assessments for aspects and impacts of all activities that the company may undertake,
  6. Develop, implement and maintain emergency preparedness plans, where significant hazards exist,
  7. Continually improve its environmental performance and prevention of pollution, taking into account current best practice, technological advances, current scientific understanding, customer and community needs,
  8. Educate, train and promote employees to work in an environmentally responsible manner,
  9. Work with suppliers and contractors through:
    o promoting and encouraging the adoption of best practice environmental management, and
    o considering environmental performance as a key element in the selection and monitoring of suppliers and contractors working on behalf of SICON.
